Ward Profile: Toronto Votes 2010


Ward 5, Etobicoke-Lakeshore, is host to creeks, rivers, and park land. It is bordered by Etobicoke Creek, the Humber River, the Gardiner Expressway, and Dundas Street West.

The City of Toronto website says that according to the 2006 census, Ward 5’ s population was 57,260. The majority of this population is between 35 and 44, with the average household income standing at $102,114. Polish people make up the largest ethnic group.

The candidates currently running for councillor are John Chiappetta, Justin Di Ciano, Morley Kells, Peter Milczyn (the incumbent), and Rob Therrien.

Milczyn has been councillor for 10 years. Rival Kells has 12 years of experience as an MPP, and was councillor of Etobicoke in the ’ 70s. The others are first-timers.

The top issues on Ward 5’ s list are the body-rub parlours on The Queensway, infrastructure development around the Six Points interchange and Etobicoke Civic Centre, and protection of the area’ s parkland.

The candidates met on October 5 to hold a debate and to respond to ward members’ questions.
